Introduction

One of the most eagerly awaited releases for Joomla, Agora 3.0 Olympus is finally here! The jVitals team has been working vigorously on this project in an attempt to make it the best possible Joomla component available. Imagine, No bridges, No hacks, just the finest fully integrated Forum Component solution for the Joomla CMS available.

Built from the ground up to be robust and efficient, Agora 3.0 has a large feature set which can not be ignored. There are also many add-ons which will be made available immediately for use with Agora, such as integrated modules and plugins.

Agora 3 is the future of integrated forums. It includes all the features that you expect from an advanced Forum, such as; Quick Post, Ranks, Awards, Image & File Attachments, Advanced Searching, Announcements, Subscriptions, Polls etc… Agora 3.0 also includes many features you will not find elsewhere, such as;

  • SubGroups not displaying in Groups Manager. Also fixed display of sub groups in Add and Edit functions of group manager. TO-DO still not properly displaying the sub groups in the forum manager (add group)
  • Groups and Sub Groups. Added the ability to See and select sub-groups in Groups Manager, Forum Manager and User Manager. This problem will be re-visited again before RC.
  • When cache directory was moved to Joomla Cache folder, this was not done for the Aggregator
  • New Topic in "Topic View" redirects you to main page once you select a forum from the list
  • Groups With group_id = 0 , Fixed by adding check for valid Group_id before processing.
  • The defaults for topics per page/posts per page. implemented the defaults which are set in the back end. See Settings#Messages_per_page
  • Optimized queries for increased speed. On high traffic sites this can saves 2-3 seconds on page loads. This will be revisited often as Agora development progresses.
  • Added Checks to Users Editor & Forums editor->Delete Group, if we try to Delete a Parent Group before its Child Group(s), we exit with a notice. We can no longer leave orphaned children.
  • Bug 205 Subscribe/Unsubscribe now works as it should. See Post Tools
  • User Ban in User Profile. Modified the Profile page to hide the Warnings and Bans from users. This is only shown to Admins and Moderators. Also added the Warnings and Bans to the review Page so that Admins and moderators can administrate the warnings for other users from the front end.
  • Social component integrated avatars. Fixed integrated Avatars. Avatars from CB, Joomunity and JomSocial are dynamically re-sized using one of 4 methods set in New back end options. New options allow a larger Avatar to be saved for use in profile or elsewhere, while displaying the avatar in the forums at a size that is right for any template.
  • In Topic view, when you click "Mark Topics Read" The page takes almost 1 minute to load. This happens all the time, so we may want to look into this.
  • Guest posts breaking topics is now resolved. You can now enable Guest posting with Captcha ability.
  • Pagination has now been added to Maintenance page for file manager. This would cause an error when there were too many images trying to load on 1 page
  • Guests can no longer send PM's. User must be logged in to send PM
  • User email in User profile is now cloaked using Joomla cloaking of emails
  • Long text now wraps as it should and no longer breaks layout
  • Preview now works in Edit mode in light box. See Forum Tools
  • On New install or upgrade, you no longer have to edit each forum. Permissions now take hold
  • jos_agora_roles now fills in all names where in some cases this was missing
  • For those that have had issues with subscriptions (db error when you make two posts to the same forum due to duplicate row), this has now been fixed
  • Fixed topic and post delete bug
  • Polls are now working. See Forum Tools

Features

  • Email for new PM. Added new notification function. Includes new options in back end. Note: on update (if not full install) be sure to visit Options area of back end and set new options.
  • Hover over latest post displays content of last post
  • Update Pagination to add next previous and first last links
  • Paging Search Results. Added pagination to search results. Also reversed the Views/Replies in the tpl. to match the forums.
  • Subscribe/Unsubscribe to Forum. Members can now subscribe to an entire forum. Any new topics or Replies, an email will be sent out
  • Subscribe/Unsubscribe to Category. Members can now Subscribe to an entire Category. Any new topics or Replies, an email will be sent out
  • List of all subscriptions will now display in your user profile. You can unsubscribe to subscriptions from there.
  • Php4 and MySql4 compatibility now supported
  • Agora User list in Admin panel now has Sort Order. So you can sort users by username
  • Search for users by Username or email in Admin Panel
  • Ability for Admin to upload Avatar for users from Admin Panel user profile page
  • Preview now displays in lightbox. Look is much cleaner and very cool
  • New installer script runs All folder permissions check that Agora requires. Creates all folders. If any folders (i.e. root/cache/) folders do not have correct permissions and or if folders are not created, you will receive a warning. This will solve many issues related to folder and site permissions based off your server settings.
  • On fresh installs, Files and folders are uploaded to the server. You will then have the option of installing a fresh clean db. If you have installed Agora but want to start over, simply install Agora, click the clean install option, all tables will be dropped and new ones are then created

  • In Agora Maintenance tab, there is now db tools where you now have the Sync option. This updates all users from Joomla to Agora and Agora to Joomla. If users were deleted from Joomla, click the link and user will be removed from Agora
  • db Optimization. Click a button and tables will be optimized. If a forum was deleted in the past and a topic was not removed, it will clear these parentless topics and posts. This fixes several known issues as well
  • Maintenance tools also. Install clean db. If you have a running forum on a test server and would like to start over, instead of uninstalling Agora, going to phpmyadmin, dropping all the tables, no you can go to maintenance tab and click install new db. This will delete all Agora tables and create new ones. Giving you a nice new forum to start with
  • Ability to Sort users in Agora Admin panel by username, registration date, Email, Last visit and number of posts
  • Ability for users to create tables in bbcode editor
  • Ability for Admins and moderators to split posts from topics. If a user asks a second question after first has been answered, you can now split the post and make it it's own topic in any forum
  • Ability to Merge topics. If a user starts a new topic while an existing topic has the same data, then Admins and moderators now have the option of merging them together
  • Admins and Moderators now have the ability to move topics from one forum to the other
  • Agora latest posts. This will display all posts made in the past 24 hours
  • Show unanswered posts. This will display all posts that have 0 replies

Bug Fixes

  • In Front end Admins and Moderators will no longer be able to Edit user Profiles. This is now all done in Back-End
  • Adding User Avatar is now added to User profile in Admin panel
  • Agora Cache components/com_agora/cache/ has been moved to Joomla's cache folder. This allows for proper permissions and alleviates the issue of having to change folder permissions.
  • Default Global group can no longer be deleted accidentally or purposefully. This is the group that new users are added to when they first register. You can change the name and permissions but can not delete it.
  • Placing the avatar folder in any other folder is now possible. In RC we will be moving the pre_avatars and members folders to the image directory. This way on upgrades, you will not lose you images if you accidentally forget to back this up.
  • Admin can now Close and Sticky Topics
  • All other profile integration systems... When selected, Avatar from that profile will now display for the user instead of the Agora avatar
  • Quoted username now displays correctly
  • Issue with removing all permissions from roles has now been made into check-boxes and Ctrl is no longer required to remove final permission
  • Notice: Constant AGORA_ROLE_GUEST already defined in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxx/components/com_agora/model/access.php on line 13
  • PMs are now parsed correctly
  • Replies to PM now get parsed correctly and display as they should
  • Preview for PM no longer submits the PM
  • PM replies no longer add more than 1 RE: (This would add an additional RE: RE: RE: every time you replied to the same PM)
  • Silent Edit mode now when Admin and Moderator is editing another users post. But will display when you edit your own
  • Preview for reply to PM now fixed
  • urls in BBCode now work without BBCode tag
  • BBCode code tag now works
  • When topic is closed, users can still click "Reply and reply to topic has been fixed
  • Enabling/disabling PM System in Admin panel now works
  • Language issues Fixed. Now when adding new languages, and language does not change, In Joomla Admin Panel, Go to Tools -> Clean Cache. All cache files will be removed
  • User Map in User Profile, when disabled in Admin panel the mapping options remained in the profile. Now fixed
  • Disable Jump forum in Admin Panel
